Travel Wessex

Wherever you go in Wessex there is interest. May be it is a beautiful cathedral in an ancient city. perhaps it is a delightful winding footpath through woods, along fields or beside a stream. Then there is mystical Dartmoor with its standing stones and haunting ghost stories. A famous site may be like Stonehenge or Avebury.

Brisfest

24th, 25th and 26th September.

Lloyd’s Amphitheatre, Waterfront Square, Millennium Square and Anchor Square. Bristol city centre Harbourside area. In the words of the website Over 500 bands, DJs, comedians, cabaret and circus performances as well as poetry, street art, dancers and a whole host of free workshops.

The Jane Austen Festival

Friday 17th to Saturday 25th September.

Regency costumed promenaders walk through the streets of Bath on the first Saturday of the Festival. The Town Crier leads the parade of folks in Regency costume from all over the world.

A colourful sight and just one of the many events of this festival.

Uncle Tom Cobley and all

Yes this fair still exists! Right in the heart of the Dartmoor National Park. Includes Uncle Tom Cobley Down Hill race, sheepdog demonstrations, Grand Parade, Gymkhana etc. Great fun in a unique place

Agatha Christie Festival

12th to 19th September. 120 years since the birth of our famous mystery author, Agatha Christie. A large number of events all over the English Riviera - Paignton, Torquay and Brixham culminating in a a birthday fireworks display on Torquay seafront on Wednesday 15th September, the day of her birth.

Along with a celebration of her birth two of Agatha Christie's characters both celebrate milestones. Hercule Poirot's 90th anniversary and Miss Marples celebrates her 80th anniversary.
