The best flights to southwest England, the region of Wessex and those beautiful counties of Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Wiltshire and Somerset, can be made to and from several international airports in the vicinity.

Southampton in Hampshire, Bournemouth in Dorset, Bristol sort of geographically in Somerset and Exeter in Devon, are within Wessex itself.

The two nearest and useful airports in the London area are Heathrow and Gatwick

So easy to make holiday plans for the area. Start and finish in London perhaps using Heathrow or Gatwick. Or make a round trip within Wessex using one of the local airports! All are in interesting places to start with. Access by road, rail or coach to wherever you want to explore is simple. Hire a car or a bike, hike, Wessex has it all.

Heathrow International Airport

Heathrow is the major airport in the country and consequently all major airlines arrive and depart from there. So many best flights southwest England can be made to this airport. Access is quite good and there are plenty of hotels close by.

Lufthansa Operates a world wide service. One of the top airlines. Non stop to and from many European destinations.

Etihad Airways National airline of United Arab Emirates. Daily flights from Abu Dhabi.

Brussels Airlines operates to and from Europe, Africa and America. Base is of course Brussels. Good stop over spot!

Aer Lingus The Irish airline, operates out of Dublin. It has a fleet of Airbus aircraft flying to and from Europe, North America and North Africa.

Swiss Airlines has three routes from Heathrow operating flights to and from Tel Aviv, Nairobi and Istanbul. They are now flying to Geneva. Swiss International Air Lines made No.1 in the Which? Airline Satisfaction Survey, 2010!

British Airways operate a global network to and from Heathrow making them an exceptionally useful airline. For those using long haul routes, do not like economy much and find Business Class a tad expensive, try their World Traveller Plus Class. Not a lot more expensive than economy and more room! (Tried it - quite comfy!)

KLM Royal Dutch Airline has world wide routes. Base is lovely Amsterdam where the tulips grow. Remember too - Amsterdam is the start or finish of those wonderful cruises through the rivers of Europe!!!!

Finnair operates the youngest fleet in Europe. Flying from Scandinavia? Finnair's base is in Helsinki from where it flies to and from Europe, America and Asia.

Virgin Atlantic One of the popular airlines. They fly one of the youngest airfleets of Boeing and Airbus.

Gatwick International Airport

Gatwick is a major airport near London servicing Europe and the world. On the train line for London and Wessex! Click on the heading to this section for details of the airport facilities and access.

British Airways worldwide flights to and from Gatwick making it a useful access point by road, rail and coach for Wessex.
