Events in Hampshire sets out to list the many and varied events in this enchanting county. In
Hampshire
not only are the events varied but so is this county. Downland sprawls across the north, the New Forest is in the south. Petersfield is the centre of an area of outstanding natural beauty. Portsmouth, a historic naval port, is on the south coast. Southampton lies at the mouth of the Itchen and Test rivers - Southampton Water - which flows into the Solent. Winchester was once the capital of England, it is now the county town of Hampshire. Interesting footpaths and cycleways abound throughout the county that are a delight to explore.
Events in JanuaryWatership Down 108K Sunday 8th January 2012. A very challenging ride for only experienced cyclists. With this time of the year comes the unpredictable weather and all its probabilities! Starts and finishes at Jubliee Hall, Kings Worthy at 9.30am. Events in FebruaryChinese New Year, Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays will be celebrating Chinese New Year on 5th February 2012. Starts at 11 am in Central Square. Lion Dancing procession with Chinese Drumming. Then there are Chinese dance martial art displays. Come and watch and then browse amongst the many shops on the Quay. Or visit some of the many attractions in the city. Events in MarchWinchester Real Ale and Cider Festival Will be held in the Winchester Guildhall on 16th and 17th March 2012. Events in April Meon Valley Riser A cyclosportive held on Sunday 1st April 2012. Start and finishes at Boundary Oak School, Roche Court, Wickham Rd, Fareham. Registration opens at 7am. There are two routes, a 46 mile and an 88 mile one. The Meon Valley is rolling down country. Lovely little villages sleeping in the April sunshine (we hope). The route uses the smaller roads as much as possible. New Forest Spring Sportive 14th April 2012. Quiet forest roads in the lovely New Forest. Two routes - 83 and 56 miles. Location - Brockenhurst College, Lyndhurst Road, Brockenhurst, Book early for this one it gets popular. Event has sold out, but there are 50 extra tickets for both Saturday and Sunday. These will not last long!!!! Heavy Horse Event will be held on Sunday 15th April 2012 from 10.00am at Harbridge Farm, Ringwood. There will be Heavy Horses working the land, wagon rides, horses ridden and driven, wagon rides, ring displays and more. Events in MayAlresford Watercress Festival This Food Festival is a 'street party' in the centre of Alresford showcasing this good for you versatile and delicious vegetable. Not just watercress either! Will be held on 20th May 2012 Hot Mountain Bike Challenge One of the Test Valley Tour events. This timed leisure ride will be held on Sunday 20th May 2012 at Vernham Dean. Events in June Gosport's Big Day out will be held on 10th June 2012. Come and see this attractive town on their Big Day, 10.00 am – 5.00 pm. All for FREE or with special offers or discounts. All the favourites will be included again this year. Events in JulyWinchester Hat Fair Friday 6th July to Sunday 8th July 2012. Winchester smiling! The wonderful Street Art Festival that takes place every year. Expect the unexpected this year the organisers say!!
Farnborough Air Show will be held on 9th to 15th July 2012. A once every two year show this is one of the leading air shows in the world. The first five days are trade days but Saturday and Sunday the show is open to the public. Mega Meon Sportive 1st July 2012. Starting at South Downs College, College Road, Waterlooville. Another lovely ride through the enchanting Meon Valley. 3 route available - 95 miles, 72 miles and 55 miles. Butser Hill is part of the course!
The New Forest and Hampshire County Show
will be held on 24th to 26th July 2012 at The Showground, New Park, Brockenhurst. A very pretty venue. Great family day out. Free car parking. This show has been held for over ninety years. Events in AugustSouthampton Sky Ride Date to be advised. Ride round Southampton - Traffic free. The New Forest Rattler will be held this year on 19th August 2012. A cyclosportive set in the scenic New Forest. There is a shorter route of 47 miles, or you are feeling really fit there is the more demanding 79 mile course. Starts and finishes at Moyles Court School, Ringwood. Events in SeptemberAlresford Show 1st September 2012. Tichborne Park. Show starts at 9 am and closes 6pm.
South Downs Way Lemming Trail
The Classic Mountain Bike 100 mile epic! 1st to 2nd September 2012. An unforgettable event. Ride from the ancient city of Winchester to the seaside resort of Eastbourne. Looks well organised.Wessex MTB Challenge will be held on 16h September 2012 at Cheriton. This is one of the Test Valley Tours.
MaXa Exposure 2011 South Downs Way Night Enduro
22nd to 23rd September 2012. An incredible night mountain bike ride challenge. Beachy Head along the South Downs Way to Queen Elizabeth Country Park. 75 miles off road and long, long hills. Events in OctoberNew Forest 100 Sportive 7th October 2012. Epic 100 miles, Std 66 miles, Fun 44 miles. Starting at Brockenhurst College, Lyndhurst Road, Brockenhurst, Hampshire. Great All England Horse Ploughing Match & Country Fair & Family Dog Show will be held on Sunday 21st October 2012 from 10am. Hartley Park Farm, Selborne, which is near Alton. There will be heavy horses ploughing, in-hand and driven showing classes, ring displays and much more. Events in November Southampton Round Table Fireworks Display will be held at Mayflower Park. Date not yet advised. Fun Fair from 1pm. Fireworks from 7.15pm
Cool Mountain Bike Challenge
This year will be held on 4th November 2012. Charlton. One of the Test Valley Tours. Very popular event to close the season. Remembrance Sunday in Southampton will be held on 11th November 2012 at the Cenotaph.
