Events in Somerset provides a link to events in this interesting county. Somerset is a county of moorland, lakes, hills and valleys, towns and pretty villages. Bristol is geographically in Somerset although it has its own governing body. The twin towns of Bath and Wells have attractive architechture and cathedrals. Weston-Super-Mare is on the coast. It has a wide sandy beach and a pier. Tide goes out a long way!

January

The Motorhome Show will be held on 6th - 8th January 2012 at the Bath & West Showgrounds, Shepton Mallet.

Antiques & Co0llector's Fair at the Bath & West Showgrounds, Shepton Mallet on 20th - 22nd January 2012.

February

The Agricultural Machinery & Equipment Show will be held next year on 1st February 2012.

Wells Bishop's Palace and Gardens reopens on 11th February 2012 with half term events. Such a lovely venue, several visits throughout the year is a pleasure.

The Bristol Classic Car Show presents the Great Western Autojumble which will be held on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th February 2012. Venue will be the Royal Bath and West Showground. Alongside is the UK's No 1 Ford Show. This year is the 50th Anniversary of that wonderful little car, the Cortina.

March

Bath Literature Festival will be held on 2nd to 11th March. 2012

Horseshoe Training Ride This fun horse riding event presented by the Endurance GB Wessex Group will be held on 3rd March 2012 at Wheddon Cross.

West Country Game Fair will be held on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March 2012. The venue is the Royal Bath & West Showground at Shepton Mallet.

Antique & Collector's Fair at the Bath & West Showgrounds on 16th - 18th March 2012 at the Bath & West Showgrounds, Shepton Mallet.

April

Ride 100 A cycle ride in aid of Action Medical Research, for children, for life. The event is being held at Bath Racecourse, Lansdown, Bath on 1st April 2012. A pretty challenging event, 100 miles or kilometres. The upside you get to ride through a very beautiful city and out into the border country of Somerset and Wiltshire.

Exmoor Horner Water 11 will be held on Sunday 15th April 2012. Starting at Horner Water at 10.30am. Early part of the run will be easy but it gets challenging.

32nd Classic Car Show The Bristol Classic Car Show at the Royal Bath and West Showground will be held on Saturday 21st April to Sunday 22nd April 2012. Supports the Childrens Hospice South West

Mells Daffoldil Festival will be held on 9th April 2012 at 11 am. Not a big village, but what a show. Perfect family day out and it is free! Live Music, street stalls and food stalls, fun fair, dog and falconry displays, Town Criers and Morris Men, stationary engines and classic cars.

North Devon Spring Walking Festival will be held from 27th April to 6th May 2012.

Abbey Hill Steam Rally will be held on 4th - 7th May 2012 Venue is the Yeovil Showground on the A37 Dorchester Road, Yeovil. Steam and stationary engines, classic cars, tractors, Land Rovers, Emergency vehicles, military vehicles and so much more. Ideal day out for the whole family.

May

Grassland UK will be held at the Bath and West Showgrounds next on 10th May 2012

Golden Horseshoe Ride 13th to 15th May 2012. The first of the Endurance GB Wessex Group's two major rides. Starts at Exford.

Bristol 10 km run. will be held on 20th May 2012. One of the most popular in the country

Bath International Music Fest will be held on 13th May to 10th June 2012.

Royal Bath and West Show will be held on 30th May to 2nd June 2012 at Shepton Mallet.

June

Tour of Wessex Cyclosportive will be held on 2nd to 4th 2012. This is the only multi stage sportive in UK and is a vey big ask to do it all. 329 mile in three days!!!! There will be lots of cyclists who will relish the challenge. There are other options - you can ride a single stage choosing varying distances of 23 miles, 73 miles, 105 miles, 117 miles and 106 miles. Something for all. Start and finish at Somerton Sports Club, Somerton.

Glastonbury Festival Worthy Farm, Pilton, There is no festival in 2012. The next festival will be held on 26th June 2013 and ticket registration is now open.

July

Great Weston Ride will be held on Sunday 15th July 2012. The cycle ride is 56 miles from Bristol to Weston Super Mare across the Mendip Hills and over the Somerset Levels. Lovely part of Somerset. Entries now open.

Helidays was held in 2011 after all. It was at the Heliport at the Heliport Museum instead of the beachfront. The 2012 date has not yet been advised

August

Taunton Flower Show 3rd and 4th August 2012. Vivary Psrk, Taunton. The Best in the West, a traditional Flower Show - plus so much more. Beautiful. A day out for all the family.

Exmoor Explorer Long distance off road cycling reliability trial. (not a race) will be held on Sunday 5th August 2012, at Wheddon Cross.

The Phoenix Ride will take place on 5th August 2012. This is an endurance horse ride, organised by the Endurance GB Wessex Group. Classes from 15km NCR to 65km CR. Entries limited to 100.

Lions Club of Weston Super Mare Real Ale and Cider Festival will be held in Weston Super Mare on 27th to 29th July 2012. There will be a Race Night on 26th.

Exmouth Exodus VII A night cycle ride from Bristol to Exmouth on 4th August 2012. Free to enter.

Mendips Sportive will be held on 12th August 2012. Claimed to be the UK's best and most unique summer sportive. The challenging climbs will be rewarded with some great views. The epic route is 100 miles and standard 70 miles.

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta Ashton Court Estate. 9th to 12th August 2012. This event is Europe's biggest Hot Air Balloon event, as well as one of the UK's top five outdoor events. Half a million visitors arrive for the show's four days - and its absolutely FREE to attend.

Mid Somerset Show on Sunday 19th August 2012. Shepton Mallet. Thousands visit this show, the largest show in Europe with Free Admission!

Axbridge Pageant 2010 was a huge success. The next one 29th August 2020! Only held every few years. A huge historical re-enactment celebrating 2,000 years of this Somerset town’s rich past.

National Gardening Show will be held on 31st August to the 2nd September 2012 at the Bath & West Showgrounds. Grow your own veg - or want to? Want to know more about gardening? An old established gardener? Just curious? Lots to see and find out. Includes The National Dahlia Show, a riot of colour. Tickets will be available online.

September

The Bristol half marathon will take place on 30th September 2012

The Jane Austin Festival will be held from Friday 14th to Saturday 22nd September 2012. Lots of intriguing events.

Frome Carnival is one of the West Country Carnivals. Date not yet advised.

Wellington Carnival Date not yet known.

North Devon & Exmoor Autumn Walking Festival North Devon and Exmoor. Date not yet known.

October

Ilminster Carnival is part of the West Country Carnival circuit. Date not yet known.

The Dairy Show will be held on 3rd October 2012 at the Bath and West Showgrounds. For the dairy industry this is one of the most important dates of the year.

Chard Carnival as one of the West Country Carnivals Date not yet known.

Castle Cary Carnival, one of the West Country Carnivals. Date not yet known.

Taunton Carnival a West Country Carnival, Date not yet known.

The Exmoor Stagger and the Exmoor Stumble Minehead, is held on in October. Organised by the Minehead Running Club. The Stagger - Challenging Off road 15 mile course with some tough climbs from Minehead to the highest point on Exmoor. The Stumble - Only 6 miles, but just as challenging!

Warminster Carnival is a West Country Carnivals. Date not yet known..

The Exmoor Beast Cycle Challenge will be held on 28th October 2012. On line entry is open. One for the very fit amongst us!!! 100 miles or 100 kilometres.

November

Ashton Court 10k Run will be held in November 2012. Actual date to be announced.

Midsommer Norton Carnival Date to be announced.

Yeovil Illuminated Carnival another of the well known West Country Carnivals. Date to be anounced.

Bridgewater Guy Fawkes Carnival is a spectacular event and part of the famous West Country Carnivals.Rather an unmissable event ahead of Guy Fawkes Day. It will be held on November 3rd 2012 at 7pm.

North Petherton Carnival is another of the West Country Carnivals. In 2012 it will be held on 10th November at 7pm.

Burnham on Sea and Highbridge Carnival also one of the West Country Carnivals was held on Monday 12th November 2012 at 7.30pm.

Shepton Mallet Carnival as one of the West Country Carnivals.will be held on Wednesday 14th November 2012 at 7.30 pm.

Wells Carnival is the biggest illuminated carnivals in the world set against the backdrop of this ancient city!!!! It is also one of the West Country Carnivals. Friday 9th November 2012. Not to be missed!

Glastonbury & Chilkwell Carnival a West Country Carnival event will be held on Saturday 17th November 2012 at 7pm.

Weston Super Mare Carnival a West Country carnival will be held on 9th November 2012.
