Devon

Devon County Show Devon's Big Out. Was held on 20 to 22nd May 2010. Clyst St Mary near Exeter.

Brixham Heritage Festival 2010 This was the 19th year of the Festival and was held on Saturday 29th May to Saturday 5th June. Started with a Parade at 11.15 am. Eight days of festivities including fun for the children. Photographic competition and a Classic Car Rally. Fireworks displays were held in The Bay on the opening and closing Saturday evenings.

Clovelly Celebration of Local Ales and Cider was held on Saturday 29 May - Monday 31 May. A special celebration. Raise a glass to North Devon;s brewers and cider makers. There was live music from the Blue Grass Boys.

North Devon Festival A whole month of festivities in all North Devon's beautiful places. From 27th May. Click for details.

Exeter City Centre Grand Prix Cycle Race One for the professional cyclists. Was held on the evening of Thursday 3 June 2010 the centre of Exeter was again hosting the Tour Series professional cycle race.

Exeter Summer Festival was held on 25 June to 10 July 2010, Over 40 events - there was something suitable for everyone.

The British Firework Championships on 10 and 11 August. Plymouth Hoe. Six Fireworks companies are battling it out for the coveted trophy. Magnificent displays by the best in Britain. View it all from Plymouth Hoe. Lots of music and entertainment, fairground rides etc. Thousands will be there. Entertainment starts at 6.30 pm on both nights. Refreshments available. Fireworks start around dusk - about 9,30 pm.

Dawlish Carnival and Airshow will be held from 14th to 21st August. One of Devon's largest Carnivals right in the middle of the holiday season. Combined with a free International Air Show the event is a holiday must for visitors and residents alike.

Orange Rolling in Totnes 24th August. Sir Francis Drake started this strange tradition - apparently he bumped onto a delivery boy and sent his oranges careering down the hill. Nowadays People race each other and chase oranges down Totnes High Street's steep hill. Great Fun!

Ilfracombe Carnival

26th August. Family fun - watch the procession through this North Devon resort

Most of us remember the old folk song Widecombe Fair. The Fair still exists! Dartmoor's day out. Widicombe Fair this year will be held on Tuesday 14 September.



Dorset

Swanage Regatta and Carnival will be held this year from 31st July to 7th August.

Lyme Regis Carnival August 7th - 14th Nine days of great events in a delightful town. Lyme Regis is the Pearl of Dorset

Weymouth Carnival to be held on 18th August 2010.

Remember the Spectacular Firework Display is at 9.30pm on Carnival Day. Always a delight to both residents and visitors.

Bournemouth Air Festival www.bournemouthair.co.uk to be held 19 to 22rd August 2010. Bournemouth is a beautiful seaside location and the display is FREE. Red Arrows, Royal Marines, International aircraft

Tarrant Hinton hosts the The Great Dorset Steam Fair. and the National Heritage Show 1st to 5th September 2010. All in all it is considered the leading show of its kind in the world! Site open for booking.

Includes Music Festival

Dorset County Show will be held this year on 4th and 5th September on the outskirts of Dorchester. There are a 1,000 competitions including Horses & Ponies, Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, Goats, Horticulture, Homecraft, Rabbits, Farm Produce, Showjumping, Sheep Shearing (new for 2010), Blacksmiths, Honey & Bee. Entries are open now.



Hampshire

Hot Mountain Bike Challenge This timed leisure ride was held on Sunday 23rd May 2010 starting at Vernham Dean Playing Field.

New Forest Sportive Road Challenge Choose one of these events - 150km Sportive, with recorded Start and Finish times or the 100km Challenge or 50km Tour. Race for Life was held on Sunday 11 July on Southampton Common. Open to women of all ages involving walking, jogging or running around a five kilometre course. Lots of women were expected.

Centenary of Flight 100 Years of flying in South Hampshire. Battle of Britain Memorial flypast on Saturday and see the Gordon Keeble classic car rally visit Southampton on Sunday

Farnborough Air Show will be held on 19th to 25th July. A once every two year show this is one of the leading air shows in the world. The first five days are trade days but Saturday and Sunday the show is open to the public.

The New Forest and Hampshire County Show is to be held on 27th to 29th July at The Showground, New Park, Brockenhurst. A very pretty venue. Great family day out. Free car parking. This show has been held for ninety years.

Alresford Show will be held on Saturday 4th September at Tichborne Park. Show starts at 9 am and closes 6pm. Includes Prince Philip Cup Mounted Games. AUGUST OFFER: Get £1.50 off all tickets purchased during August. Offer applies to all tickets purchased online or through local outlets.

South Downs Way The Classic Mountain Bike 100 mile epic! 4th to 5th September. An unforgettable event. From the ancient city of Winchester to the seaside resort of Eastbourne. Looks well organised.

MaXx Exposure 2010: South Downs Way Night Enduro 25-26th September 2010. Open for booking soon. An incredible night mountain bike ride challenge. Beachy Head along the South Downs Way to Queen Elizabeth Country Park. 75 miles off road and long, long hills.

Cool Mountain Bike Challenge. This year will be held on Sunday 31st October. Starts at the The Pavilion, Charlton Sports and Leisure Centre, Andover. 45kms or 30kms. Why not pre enter now!! Times recorded. Very popular event to close the season. www.testvalleytour.com/cool_mtb.htm



The Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight Jazz Festival The IOW Jazz Festival was due to take place on its usual date in April 2010 which fell on the 9th-11th this year. Unfortunately, due to events beyond the organisers' control (against which they have had to take action), the festival cannot be held in Ventnor in April 2010 as usual. They are unable to discuss this is detail at present but hope to be in a position to supply a full explanation and any alternative arrangements for the Isle of Wight Jazz Festival soon.

Isle of Wight Randonee. The event this year was held on the 2nd May 2010 a Sunday. This year's rides were in an clockwise direction and there was a choice of 100km and 55km rides. Event started at 9am and finished at 6pm.

The Isle of Wight Walking Festival This is the UK's Largest Walking Festival - The ISLE OF WIGHT WALKING FESTIVAL was held this year between 8 - 23rd MAY 2010 - ! There were 300 walks to choose from!


Wight Diamond Mountain Bike Festival was last held on 27th - 30th May 2009.

Yarmouth Old Gaffer's Festival Thousands flock to this festival in Yarmouth every year. An Old Gaffer??? To those in the know it is a fore and aft rigged sailing ship. (Not an old country yokel!!) This lovely harbour was filled - the cream of the Old Gaffers fleet were there, plus visiting traditional sailing, steam and motor vessels This year the festival was held between 4th and 6th June. Masses of free entertainment on the shore.

The Isle of Wight Festival was held on 11th, 12th and 13th June 2010.Tickets were on sale Friday 4th December 2009. Stars, stars, stars. Added to the line up are four hot acts - Florence + The Machine, La Roux, N-Dubz and The Hold Steady - a blistering line up.

British Heart Foundation Off Road Bike Ride Another one for the cyclist in you. Was held on Saturday 19th June. A circular route based on Newport. There was a fully signed 100km challenge and shorter routes that was not so challenging of 75 and 50 kms. Sponsored by Wightlink.

Osborne House plays host to four spectacular music events this year. The first two by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Ryde Arts Parade was held on 11 Jul, a flamboyant parade setting off the fun filled Ryde Arts Festival that lasts until 18 July. The events coincide with the Ryde Regatta which is a three day event of family entertainment, local bands and DJ's on the seafront.

Royal Isle of Wight County Show was held on Sunday 18th July at the Northwood Showground which is between Cowes and Newport. Many events throughout the day.

Cowes Week

There is just nothing like it - the imcomparable Cowes Week. 31 July to 7th August. The oldest and largest sailing carnival in the whole World. Thousands of competitors and spectators. 31 July to 7 August.

Plenty of shoreside entertainment

The Isle of Wight Cycling Festival to be held 18th to 26th September 2010. Cyclists can sample different cycling routes that will take in the most picturesque areas of the Island as well as local landmarks.

The Autumn Walking Weekend The Weekend will be held on 22 - 25th October 2010. This Festival gets bigger. Woderful weekend for the walker!




Somerset

Exmoor Explorer Long distance off road cycling reliability trial. (not a race) Sunday 8th August, Wheddon Cross, 10 am. Entries are now full.

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta to be held on 12th to 15th August 2010 at Ashton Court Estate.

Glastonbury Festival Worthy Farm, Pilton, was held from Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th June.

Helidays 23rd to 25th July on Weston Super Mare's beachfront lawns. Their largest annual sea front event. Not just for the aviation enthusiast either!

Lions Club of Weston Super Mare Real Ale and Cider Festival is also running in Weston Super Mare on 23rd to 25th July.

Taunton Flower Show 6th and 7th August, Vivary Psrk, Taunton. The Best in the West, a traditional Flower Show - plus so much more. A day out for all the family. Events include Brass Bands, Conquest Centre for Disabled Riders, Ready Steady Garden, Morris Dancers, The South West Orchid Society, The Taunton Amateur Winemaking Circle holding their annual wine show, and displays by the Taunton Bee Keepers.

Mid Somerset Show on Sunday 15th August. Shepton Mallet. Thousands visit this show, the largest show in Europe with Free Admission! The Wurzels are making a return visit.

Axbridge Pageant August Bank Holiday 28th to 30th August. Only held every 10 years. a huge historical re-enactment celebrating 2,000 years of this Somerset town’s rich past.

2010 RNLI Raft Race 4th September 2.30 pm to 10.00 pm. Minehead.

North Devon & Exmoor Walking Festival North Devon and Exmoor, 1st October to 4th October.

The Exmoor Stagger and the Exmoor Stumble Minehead, 24th October. Organised by the Minehead Running Club. The Stagger - Challenging Off road 15 mile course with some tough climbs from Minehead to the highest point on Exmoor. The Stumble - Only 6 miles, but just as challenging!

The Exmoor Beast Cycle Challenge 31st October Start and Finish is at Butlins, Minehead. 100 miles or 100 kilometres.



Wiltshire

Southern Trail Ride was held on 19th June 2010 at Swindon. This included the Southern 100k Enduro. Regular short and standard Trail Ride distances. Wonderful views from the Ridgeway trail. Stunning day out.

Heddington & Stockley Steam Rally & Country Fair was held on 3rd & 4th July next to the Ivy Inn, Heddington near Calne. This is a real fun day out. Vintage traction engines, miniature steam, stationery engines, tractors, classic cars, motor cycles, military vehicles, commercial vehicles and trade stands.

Wiltshire Family History Society Open Day was held at New College, Swindon on 20th June 2009 between 10am and 3.30pm.

They also held a Seminar entitled "It's all on the internet now - isn't it" on 19th September 2009 10am to 4.15pm at the Social Centre, Bromham.

Marlborough International Jazz Festival was held on 9th, 10th and 11th July in Marlborough itself. This is a very popular Festival

37th Trowbridge Village Pump Festival Stowford Manor Farm, Wingfield near Trowbridge will be held on 22nd to 25th July 2010.

Another great line up. 4 main stages of excellent folk/ roots music featuring the Waterson Family, the Blockheads, Lau, Dreadzone, Show of Hands and friends, Bellowhead, Ukulele Orchestra, the Handsome Family, Jassi Sidhu and many more to be confirmed. Plus cabaret and afternoon folk concerts in new venues.

Salisbury International Arts Festival was held from 21st May to 5 June 2010. The main cultural themes were of Russia, an artistic focus on stories and an environmental theme of chalk and stone. A colourful and vibrant celebration of performance, visual arts, literature and music. No wonder the Festival has won the Tourism Event of the Year in the South West.

Their Salisbury Food & Drink Festival was held on 14 to 20th September 2009. Local eats and drinks were delicious.
